>detective_stories<:

For the first time, the Sammlung Moderne Kunst in the Pinakothek der Moderne will present a studio exhibition focussed on the art technology of a selection of particularly interesting paintings by Jawlensky, Kokoschka, Schmidt-Rottluff and Kirchner. The exhibition will give visitors exciting insights into the work process and the painting techniques used in the works. X-ray images and pigment analyses combined with recently discovered archival source material will reveal invisible features of the paintings exhibited. Comprehensive results of the examinations of two paintings by Jawlensky and two paintings by Kirchner will be presented in terms of painting technique, the work process and their history. For the first time ever in Munich, two self-portraits by Kokoschka will be presented side by side that were created at almost the same time. Five other paintings, created in the style of Schmidt-Rottluff, will be identified as fakes. Here, the results of art technological examinations as well as the thorough knowledge of Schmidt-Rottluff's biography will tell thrilling (detective) stories.

The exhibition has been made possible through a generous grant of the Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung. A booklet with the English exhibition texts will be available at the CEDON museum's shop for 3 Euro.
