WISSENSSPEICHER reflects the wide spectrum of competence as well as the high degree of networking between the Munich cultural institutions. Only if we work together will we be able to preserve our cultural heritage and pass on our society’s treasures from generation to generation so that it continues to play its important part in the memory of mankind.
As an integral part of this project, the Doerner Institut will host the biennial Congress of the International Institute for Conservation for Historic and Artistic Works (IIC). It will be the first time that this important conference will be held in Germany since the IIC was founded 56 years ago. Approximately 550 conservators, restorers and academics from all disciplines will meet in the Auditorium Maximum of the Technical University of Munich to devote themselves to the subject of the congress “The Object in Context: Crossing Conservation Boundaries". The lectures and poster presentations of the congress will place objects of cultural importance within the context of their historical, social, religious, ethical, economic or technological context. The resulting exchange of knowledge will have a long-lasting effect on decision-making processes in conservation and restoration. It may even lead to completely new approaches to preserving objects of unique cultural significance. In many cases, this process creates a new understanding and a closer relationship to the object, and indicates once more that every object is a WISSENSSPEICHER.
